Personal Bruise Care Plan

Bruise Injury

  1. Apply icepack to injuried area immediately to reduce swelling and diminish black-and-blue discoloration.
  2. Apply alternate hot and cold packs for the first 48 hours.
  3. Elevate injuried extremity for the first 24 hours if possible.*
  4. If necessary, take over-the-counter medication for pain.
  5. Apply BruiseRx to injured area.
  6. Some forms of non-injury bruising may be associated with vitamin or other deficiencies.
  7. Contact a physician if: bruising occurs without injury, infection is present, or if pressure or swelling persist.
  8. If taking prescription medication that effect blood clotting, or other blood functions see a physician.
  9. Re-apply BruiseRx to reduce bruise discoloration and improve healing as necessary.
* If possible, try to elevate bruised area higher than your heart in a resting position.
