Spider, Bug, Insect Bite & Sting Treatment Information
Spider Bites
- Wash the bite with soap and water.
- Apply a cool compress.
- Apply Bite Rx.
- If necessary, take OTC medication to control pain or itching.
- Antibiotics are not helpful unless the wound is infected.
- Do not cut or apply suction to the wound.
- Monitor the bite for redness, swelling, pain, or signs of infection.
- Re-apply Bite Rx to control bite symptoms and promote healing.
- If redness, swelling or pain does not subside or there are signs of infection see your physician.
Bug Bites
- Apply a cold compress or ice pack to the bite for 15-20 minutes every hour for the first 6 hours. Don't put ice directly on the skin.
- If necessary, elevate the bite area to decrease swelling.
- Apply Bite Rx.
- If necessary, take OTC medication to control itching, pain, redness or swelling.
- Antibiotics are not helpful unless the wound becomes infected.
- Monitor the bite for redness, swelling, pain or signs of infection.
- Re-apply Bite Rx to control bite symptoms and promote healing.
- If swelling persists apply warm compresses to the bite for relief.
- If redness, swelling or pain does not subside or there are signs of infection see your physician.
- Avoid scratching or breaking bite blisters as they may lead to infection
Bee & Wasp Stings
- Scrap the bee or wasp sting out of the skin using a credit card or flat object. Do not squeeze the stinger as venom is released into the skin.
- Apply a cold compress or ice pack to the bite for 15-20 minutes every hour for the first 6 hours. Don't put ice directly on the skin.
- If necessary, elevate the sting area to decrease swelling.
- Apply Bite Rx.
- If necessary, take OTC medication to control itching, pain, redness or swelling.

- Monitor the sting for redness, swelling, pain or signs of infection.
- Re-apply Bite Rx to control sting symptoms and promote healing.
- If swelling persists apply warm compresses to the sting site for relief.

Bite & Sting Treatment Tips
- Spider bites and be revisionism requiring medical treatment and commonly take longer to heal. It is important to monitor spider bites as bite locations can become infected requiring antibiotics.
- Tick bites run the risk of Lime Disease as some ticks are carriers. Proper tick removal is important as ticks, if pulled, can detach from their head or mouth leaving the body part impeded in the skin. This may lead to infection. Use heat or liquid based product to cause the tick to back out.
- Bee stings may cause an allergic reaction as a percentage of the population is allergic to bee stings requiring immediate medical attention. Bee stings require careful removal as squeezing the stinger causes a release of venom into the skin. Remove stingers by scraping them using a credit card for other flat object immediately.
- Ant bites or stings may be painful. Fire ants inflict a burning bite sensation and can be painful. If unsure what type of ant nests exist around your home or office, call an licensed exterminator to determine the ant specie.
- Fly bites can be both irritating and painful causing prolonged itch, swelling and redness. Guarding against flies during spring and summer months is important. Natural citronella based insect repellent is an effective deterrent.
- Chigger bites are really not bites but chemical residue left over from mites consuming liquid from skin pores during their brief stay on the skin. To avoid chigger attachment to skin pores and resulting irritation, shower after spending time in the outdoors where chiggers live.
- Flea are prolific and difficult to kill once established in homes. Modern insecticides control flea reproductive cycles causing sterility in females, however, fleas typically return to environments where pets are present. Flea bites are both irritating and itchy commonly creating welts from itching, swelling, and redness. Avoid itching flea bites as they cause increased healing time.
- Mosquitoes flourish during Spring and Summer months swarming near still water and in moist climatic areas. Mosquitoes pose both a health risk and irritation as mosquito bites, like flea bites cause itching, swelling and redness. Avoid exposure to dusk or evening hours when mosquitoes swarm or use mosquito control products to reduce their presence.
